Project Description
Position: UX Designer, Project Manager, UI/Web Designer
Website Url: www.cooperstownlakefronthotel.com
Cooperstown Lake Front Hotel was an existing client of Directive’s. They were interested in getting a new, updated website. Their current site was not responsive and outdated. They had just filmed a new video of their hotel and they wanted to showcase it on their new website. They book rooms through booking.com and wanted to keep it that way, so they wanted more links on the website for their booking.com listing.
Research
I researched hotel websites. Hotels always have a booking form or button at the top of the homepage. They display high quality images of their hotels, outside and inside. These websites include reviews, attractions and amenities in several areas including the homepage. Most of the pages on the website are available as links on the homepage to help users move around their website. If the hotel has a restaurant, they also include the menu.
Wireframes and Prototypes
I used Adobe XD to plan the design of the homepage. I wanted to keep it clean and simple, yet provide new and existing customers with everything they needed. The goal was to make it visually appealing, and provide the quickest way to get to the information the user is looking for.
User Personas
I created two user personas: Susan and Charlie. Susan and Charlie are both visiting Cooperstown for the first time and will be first time users to the website. They both know what they want and how long they are staying. Susan will want to view the place (with photos) before making a purchase. She’ll also want to find reviews to make sure the place is family friendly and has a good atmosphere. Charlie, on the other hand, will want to look at the immediate first, to make sure it has WiFi. He will most likely want to book a room right after he is sure.
